How to Eat 5 A Day The Color Way

5 A Day The Color Way is a simple program to help you include five to nine servings of healthful fruits and vegetables in your daily diet. The object is to choose from five basic color groups - blue/purple, green, white, yellow/orange, red - to insure that you get a variety of nutrients and vitamins without adding extra calories or saturated fats.

How many servings do you need each day?



Children ages two to six, women and others who need at least 1,600 calories a day to maintain a healthy weight need five daily servings: two fruits and three vegetables.



Older children, teenage girls, active women and most men on a 2,200 calorie diet need seven servings: three fruits and four vegetables.



Teenage boys, active men and anyone consuming 2,800 calories a day for weight loss or maintenance need nine servings: four fruits and five vegetables.
