What is a serving size?

A 5 A Day Serving size is:

  • ¾ cup (6 oz.) of 100% fruit or vegetable juice
  • ½ cup cooked, canned or frozen legumes (beans and peas)
  • ½ cup raw, cooked, frozen or canned fruit (in 100% juice) or vegetables
  • one medium size fruit
  • 1 cup raw, leafy vegetables
  • ¼ cup dried fruit

How can you gauge portion sizes when you're away from your own kitchen? Try these tips:

  • A medium size piece of fruit is the size of a baseball
  • A cup of raw vegetables will fit into an average-sized woman's hand
  • The average paper cup at a water dispenser is 6 oz.
