Harris Teeter Adds Twist by Hosting Sunkist Lemonade Stands at 150 Locations and Launching “Take a Stand, Take a Vacation!” Sweepstakes

MATTHEWS, N. Carolina (July 8, 2006) – Harris Teeter and Sunkist Growers joined forces today to host “Take a Stand” lemonade fundraisers at 150 Harris Teeter locations throughout the southeast. Through the Sunkist “Take a Stand™” program, Harris Teeter associates and their children have chosen to raise money for the United Way by setting up Sunkist lemonade stands and selling homemade, fresh-squeezed lemonade for a $1.00 a cup.

Harris Teeter and Sunkist are also introducing their “Take a Stand, Take a Vacation!” sweepstakes. Shoppers will have the chance to win a $10,000 Family Dream Vacation, between July 5 and August 8, 2006. Each time a customer visits Harris Teeter and makes a purchase using their Harris Teeter VIC Card, they’ll automatically receive one entry into the sweepstakes.

“After launching this year’s “Take a Stand” program with a live concert featuring country star Billy Dean at a Harris Teeter store in Nashville, we’re thrilled that Harris Teeter has taken the program to the next level,” said Robert Verloop, Vice President of Marketing, Sunkist Growers, Inc. “It’s amazing to see how a good old-fashioned lemonade stand can inspire families to get involved in their communities. Harris Teeter is a shining example of giving back to the neighborhoods that have supported them through the years.”

Last year, Harris Teeter raised more than $1 million for United Way through associate and customer support. This year, all lemonade stand donations will be distributed by United Way directly to the agencies located in the communities where the money was raised.

In its third year, the Sunkist “Take a Stand” program empowers kids to make a difference in their local communities by providing free lemonade stands. For this purpose, Sunkist will provide 10,000 lemonade stands while supplies last. The only requirement is the kids must be ages 7 – 12 and pledge to raise money for a charity of their choice at In addition to registering for their own free lemonade stand, families can learn how to run a successful lemonade sale, choose a charity, pick a lemonade recipe and most importantly “Take a Stand” for a charity close to their heart.
