Sunkist and Mildura Fruit Company
Expand Successful Australian
June 21, 2005
June 21, 2005, Sherman Oaks, Calif.…Mildura Fruit Company of Mildura, Victoria, Australia and Sunkist Global LLC have entered their second season supplying navel oranges to the Western Canadian market.
Mildura and Sunkist marketed approximately 40 percent of all the navel oranges shipped to Canada from Australia during the 2004 season, their first year of cooperation. Because of the strong retail support they received last year, the companies expect to improve both the frequency of delivery and the specific grade and quality required by the Western Canadian marketplace, both this year and in the future.
“In cooperation with Mildura, Sunkist has put in place a number of season-long programs tailored to the specific requirements of Western Canadian retailers to effectively merchandise summer navel oranges from Australia along with Sunkist’s traditional summer citrus lineup from California and Arizona,” said Jeff Gaston, sales manager in Sunkist’s Vancouver, B.C. office. “Our retail customers are pleased to be able to offer an integrated Sunkist citrus program that marries high quality citrus varieties from different production areas.”
“The Sunkist brand is known for its commitment to quality products and customer service,” Gaston added. “Our relationship with Mildura allows us to respond not only to the demands of our buyers for year-round supplies, but also to provide valuable marketing and promotional services to Australian producers who have the same high quality standards maintained by Sunkist's traditional cooperative members.”
Sunkist Global LLC is the global sourcing arm of Sunkist Growers, the nation's oldest and largest citrus marketing cooperative, owned by more than 6,000 citrus growers in California and Arizona.
