Sherman Oaks, Calif., December 2, 2002...This holiday season good things come in "little" packages. "Stuart Little 2" will be released on DVD and video on Dec. 10 by Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment, just as Sunkist's navel orange season begins and Sunkist is rolling out the orange carpet for Stuart with "A Little Goes a Long Way" Sweepstakes. The sweepstakes offers consumers a chance to win more than 1,000 prizes such as Sony CD players, "Stuart Little 2" DVDs and mini Sunkist radios. The promotion will also provide fun recipes and information on the health benefits of citrus as an easy and healthy snack alternative.
Currently, produce sections in the U.S. and Canada will feature eye-catching graphics of Stuart Little on limited edition bags of Sunkist navel oranges and lemons. Each bag will include a Sunkist® Citrus booklet containing high-value coupons and six kid-friendly recipes named for favorite Stuart Little characters, such as Stuart's "Little" Orange Gingerbread Men and Falcon's Favorite Fresh Orange Cranberry Sauce. The booklet also includes holiday craft ideas such as using citrus in holiday ornaments and creating a Sunkist Citrus Snowman.
"Building on the overwhelming success of our Sunkist Summer Adventure Sweepstakes tied to the 'Stuart Little 2' theatrical release, this was a natural extension of our partnership," said Robert Verloop, vice president of marketing, Sunkist Growers. "Stuart Little is the perfect spokesmouse to reach consumers and build awareness of the health benefits of citrus in a fun and entertaining way to which both kids and parents can relate."
Fans can find out for themselves about the "A Little Goes a Long Way" sweepstakes by entering via the Sunkist Web site (www.sunkist.com) and registering to win the grand prize of a portable Sony CD player, DVD player and digital camera. The site also includes holiday recipes, arts and crafts projects and a special bonus holiday screensaver. The sweepstakes will run from Nov. 29 through Jan. 15. No purchase necessary. Complete sweepstakes rules and regulations will be posted on www.sunkist.com.
Supporting the promotion will be point-of-sale materials, posters, and special edition bags of Sunkist citrus sporting high-impact graphics of Stuart Little. In addition, select retailers will offer Sunkist coupons on select "Stuart Little 2" video product. Both produce departments and video retailers benefit, as the on-pack offer drives consumers back to produce departments and Sunkist Citrus booklets drive consumers back to video retailers.
When "Stuart Little" was released theatrically in December 1999, the plucky little mouse was a winner from the start. A blockbuster that earned over $300 million worldwide, the film received a Best Visual Effects Academy Award® nomination in 2000. "Stuart Little" DVDs and videos have been regulars on the best-seller charts from the time they appeared.
Now Stuart is back on DVD and videocassette in "Stuart Little 2," continuing his exciting adventures in a sequel that once again combines live-action with groundbreaking visual effects technology. The original cast (including Michael J. Fox, Geena Davis, Hugh Laurie, Jonathan Lipnicki, Nathan Lane and Steve Zahn) returns to the screen. Joining them this time are Melanie Griffith as the voice of Margalo and James Woods as the voice of Falcon. Rob Minkoff (Lion King) returns to direct the second Stuart Little installment.
DVDs and videos are hot entertainment, with many people receiving home entertainment gifts this holiday. In 2001, consumer spending on DVDs and videos was more than twice that spent on movie tickets. In addition, more than 364 million DVDs were shipped that year, bringing the total number shipped since DVDs were launched to an astounding 675 million. There's no doubt about it--this is a winning format and Sunkist and "Stuart Little 2" are a winning combination.
Sunkist is delighted to join Stuart in bringing holiday fun and the health benefits of citrus to fans of all ages. Citrus fruits are a great addition to any festive table and an easy, delicious way to get the recommended 5-A-Day servings of fruits and vegetables.
As one of the world's oldest and largest citrus marketing cooperatives, Sunkist Growers is owned by more than 6,000 citrus growers in California, Arizona and Texas, most of whom are small family farmers.
