All-Purpose Pie Crust Recipe

Easy to make, we use this All-Purpose Pie Crust in our Double Crust-Lemon Pie!

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ cup vegetable shortening
  • 4 ½ Tbsp. cold water

Instructions: (Makes 1 serving)

  • In a large bowl, sift together the flour and salt.
  • With a pastry blender or two knives, cut in shortening until pieces are the size of small peas.
  • Gradually add the water, tossing mixture with a fork to incorporate just enough moisture so that mixture can be formed into a ball.
  • Flatten onto a lightly floured board. Roll out to an 11- to 12-inch circle.
  • Line a 9- or 10-inch pie plate with the pastry and flute the edges as desired.
  • Prick bottom and sides well with a fork; chill for 30 minutes or longer, then bake at 450o F for 10 to 12 minutes; cool.
