These pears are very simple to prepare, but so elegant. Italian Style Poached Pears and Oranges make a beautiful presentation for special occasions, serve at your next dinner party, your guests will be delighted.


  • 4 pears (Bosc, Bartlett, etc.)
  • 1/2 Sunkist® lemon, juiced
  • 1 cup white grape juice or ginger ale
  • 1/2 Sunkist® orange, zested
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 tsp. cornstarch
  • 2 Tbsp. Triple Sec or other orange flavored liqueur
  • 2 Sunkist® oranges, peeled, cut in half cartwheel slices, drained
  • Fresh mint leaves

Instructions: (Makes 4 servings)

  • Cut a thin slice off bottom of each pear. With apple corer, remove core of each pear from bottom (do not push corer all the way through pear) leaving stem intact. Peel pears and place upright in a large saucepan.
  • Sprinkle pears with lemon juice. Add grape juice, orange zest and cinnamon to pan, bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 20 minutes or until pears are just tender.
  • Remove pears to individual dessert dishes. Discard cinnamon stick. Dissolve cornstarch in orange liqueur, stir into liquid in pan. Heat stirring constantly until slightly thickened. Add drained orange half cartwheel slices, heat just until oranges are warmed through.

  • To Serve: Arrange oranges around pears and spoon the sauce over pears and oranges. Garnish with mint leaves.
