Summer will be here before you know it. Get the whole family together to take care of these seasonal chores and then go have some fun!
Outside
- Organize the Garage
- Check your local home center for clever storage solutions to keep tools and equipment off the floor and handy.
- While you're organizing, eliminate. Designate one pile each for garage sale, donation and trash.
- Clean and repair outdoor furniture.
- Inspect the roof for winter damage. Schedule needed repairs early before the summer construction season.
- Take a walk around the house and be on the look-out for peeling paint, cracked caulking and other exterior damage. Fix small problems before they become major repair bills.
- Clean out the gutters and downspouts.
- Relegate dead plants and weeds to the compost pile.
Inside
- Clean out closets. Discard or donate unwanted or unworn winter clothes. Dry clean winter clothing before you store away.
- Enjoy the sunshine. Wash the windows and the screens.
- Vacuum drapes, valances and mini-blinds. Send badly soiled drapes to the dry cleaner.
- Move the furniture and vacuum underneath it. While you're at it, lift up all the cushions and vacuum under those, too.
- Inspect your air-conditioning system and schedule needed repairs before the summer season.
- Drain your water heater to remove sediment. Check your owner's manual for instructions.
- Clean out your freezer and discard anything that's past its prime.
- Go through the medicine cabinets and discard expired prescriptions.
- Replace the batteries in your smoke and radon detectors.
