2008 Take a Stand Success Stories

Kids from every state in America, and every province in Canada, are shining examples of how squeezing your heart out for a good cause can bring your community together!

Kennedy Jet, 11
Lancaster, PA
Children’s Miracle Network
Raised: $2,236.23

“My kisses team held our 5th annual CMN fundraiser on May 31st in front of our Walmart. We had our Sunkist lemonade stand selling our fresh squeezed lemonade for a generous donation and we sold baked goods and hotdogs and hamburgers all for a generous donation too. We were there from 9 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon. Everything was going great until about 12 o clock, then we had a big big rain storm with winds and lots and lots of rain. We had to move everything back and cover everything then lightening started and it was so scary. It lasted about an hour but the customers were still coming and we sold every cup of lemonade. The next day my baby brother kaeden and me presented the money we raised on the CMN telethon in Hershey, PA. Thank you Sunkist sooooooooooo soooooooooo much for helping us to help children with special hearts like my awesome Kaeden. SUNKIST ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Alaina, 7
Boise, ID
Make a Wish Foundation, Idaho Chapter
Raised: $106.69

“My kids want to do something to make a difference in the community. They are learning what it means to give rather than receive.” – Alaina’s mother

Ariel, 9
Colorado Springs, CO
Chemo Angels Peyton Ogle
Raised: $360

“I am writing to tell you that this was a wonderful idea for you to have the kids do this for their favorite charity. We volunteer for Chemo Angels, which is a nonprofit that connects chemo patients with angels that send them small gifts and cards every week to lift their spirits. This weekend my daughter and her softball friends set up their stands at our West El Paso baseball fields. Our great families ended up donating $360.05 for our little chemo buddy, Peyton Ogle! Thank you for the cool stand and for the awesome idea. I hope kids all over will do this for each other.” – Ariel’s mother

Benjamin, 9
Whitehall, PA
Alex’s Lemonade Stand
Raised: $41

“On July 12, 2008, Ben and I sold lemonade and donated the proceeds to Alex's Lemonade Stand. We raised $41 in two hours. Ben was thrilled that he had a part in helping children with cancer. Ben is a very loving, giving child. Unfortunately, Ben has a heart condition and will be undergoing surgery on August 26, 2008. Despite being ill himself, Ben still wanted to sell lemonade to help other sick children. Thank you, Sunkist, for donating these lemonade stands. As adults, I think we could all gain something from the generosity of children.” – Barbara, Ben's babysitter

Gary, 11
Tacoma, WA
Seattle Children’s Hospital
Raised: $1,000

“On July 18, my brother (Sam), friends (Sarah and Lauren) and I had our awesome lemonade stand! We made posters and signs to prepare. We made treats and squeezed tons of lemons. Friends, family and strangers all visited our stand. Some even drove an hour for a glass of our delicious lemonade! It was a lot of work, but it paid off – we made $1,000! We even got the attention of the local news and were on TV! We are proud to have donated the money to Seattle Children’s Hospital in honor of two great friends we lost to cancer that I met during my treatment. We can’t wait to open our stand again soon!”

Sawyer, 8
Pflugerville, TX
The Smile Train Foundation
Raised: $28.57

“Sawyer wants to change the world. Or at least change the life of a child that has cleft lip/palate defects. Sawyer has chosen the Smile Train Foundation which is a team of surgeons and nurses that repair cleft lip and cleft palates of children that can not afford the surgeries. Sawyer sees this as very important since his own little brother, Samson, was affected at birth with this particular defect. We know that Sawyer WILL change the life of at least one child!” - Sawyer’s parents

Alexis, 7
Wexford, PA
March of Dimes
Raised: $50

“I was a premature baby and I wanted to give back to the people that helped me. We set up on Saturday, and worked for three hours and made $21. Everyone wanted me to use Crystal Light, but because of your dedication, and help, I made sure we only used Sunkist lemons. The people agreed, they came back for some of that hand squeezed fresh lemonade. I am really impressed with how much effort and money your company put into helping little kids make money for charity. It shows real class.”

Savannah, 8
Roanoke, VA
SPCA
Raised: $50

“I studied community awareness and volunteering in 2nd grade this year. I wanted to do something to help the SPCA, so I told my mom and she found this offer by Sunkist and got me a Sunkist lemonade stand. I put it up on the sidewalk at her work on a Saturday. I made $50 for the SPCA. We went on the following Monday and donated the money. I went around and looked at all the adoptable animals. The workers showed me what the money could help with. I was so happy and my mom was so proud of me. Thank you SUNKIST!!!!! And the doggies and kitties thank you too.”

Andy & Katie, 9
Point Pleasant, NJ
Christina S. Walsh Breast Cancer Foundation
Raised: $23.75

“Our mom and her friends had planned to have a garage sale on August 8th so we decided to sell lemonade with our 2 friends and to help The Christina S. Walsh Breast Cancer Foundation. We were so excited when the Lemonade Stand came and we could not wait to use it! We sold each cup for $0.25 and we made $23.75. The stand was really sturdy and we got a lot of compliments on it and a lot of people gave some extra money when they saw it was for charity so we were very glad about that. We had a lot of fun and more importantly we hope this will help someone in need!”

Breton, 9
Cleveland, Nova Scotia (Canada)
I.W.K. Children's Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia
Raised: $110.74

“My babysitter, Christina, was diagnosed with cancer at Christmas time this year, and it made everyone very sad. All of the adults in our community were helping her and her family, but I thought that it would be nice for the kids to do something, too. My mom heard about the "Take a Stand" project from Sunkist and she said that a lemonade sale would be a great way to show that I care. We made over $110.74 for the I.W.K. Children’s Hospital, and had so much fun doing it! Everyone loved how cute my Sunkist Lemonade Stand was! I will do this again next summer.”

Avery, 7
Tampa, FL
Cell Phones for Soldiers
Raised: $80

“I am very proud of my first lemonade stand! My little brother and I raised $80 and collected 39 old cell phones to be recycled for pre-paid calling cards for US soldiers. We advertised at our club house and with our friends at school. We even had people that we didn’t know, go back home to get unused cell phones for our stand. We had two choices of lemonade - strawberry and regular! Strawberry was the favorite. We even had homemade sugar cookies for our customers.”

Jack, 8
Bloomington, IL
Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network
Raised: $350

“My son Jack who has a life threatening peanut/tree nut allergy recently had his lemonade stand for 2 hours on a Saturday. He raised over $350 to be sent to the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network for research on the peanut allergy vaccine they are working on at Duke University. His lemonade stand was mentioned on a local radio station which we think helped considerably. It was a HUGE success and for a Great cause. This allergy affects so many young children and to have a vaccine that makes it not life-threatening would be a major step in the right direction.”

Jack, 7
Mason, OH
Red Cross
Raised: $31

“Jack held a Sunkist lemonade stand for charity on Saturday, September 20, 2008. He raised $31 for the Red Cross to help Ike Victims. Hurricane Ike caused so much devastation in Texas that Jack was proud to help. We don’t usually get hurricanes in Ohio, but Ike crossed with a strange cold front from Canada and on Sunday September 14th he roared into to the Cincinnati area were we live and knocked out power to 90% of homes in town. More than 1.2 million went off the grid for a few hours, some for as long as SEVEN days. We were thrilled to be able to put the Sunkist lemonade stand we had received earlier in the summer to good use. Thanks Red Cross and thanks Sunkist!”
