2006 Take a Stand Success Stories

2006 Take a Stand Success Stories

Kids from every state in America, and every province in Canada, are shining examples of how squeezing your heart out for a good cause can bring your community together!

Olivia, 7
Ottawa
Charity: Epilepsy Ottaw-Carleton
Money Raised: $107

“My Brother Julien has epilepsy and him and I had our lemonade stand to raise money for Epilepsy Ottawa-Carleton. We had it at the South Keys fun fair. With the help of the Ottawa Police Child Print Kiosk, we were able to attract a lot of people. People gave us lots of money because they thought it was a good cause. They said a man had a seizure at the fair the day before. Mom said they gave us lots of money because we were so cute. It was fun! Thank you."

Killian, 07
Virginia Beach, VA
Charity: Make-A-Wish Foundation
Money Raised: $20.25

“I was so excited to have my stand! My dad helped me put it together and my mom helped me make the lemonade. I had so much fun. I made a poster so everyone could see the money was not for me. It was for Make-A-Wish. My brother gets to make a wish so I wanted to help pay for it and help other kids with cancer. Some people gave me tips. I can’t wait to do it again! I am happy to be able to help pay for lots of wishes. I can help pay for my brother’s wish, but I can also help pay for others. I am so glad. The lemonade was really good too, and I was glad it didn’t have a lot of sourness. Most people thought it was so good they didn’t even want ice in it.”

Carson, 8
Charity: Eosinophilic gastroenteritis research
Money Raised: $5295

Carson Piansky and family raised $5295 to support research. Carson's brother Ryan has eosinophilic gastroenteritis, an autoimmune disease which leaves many children dependent on tube feedings and medications to suppress the immune system.

Cheyenne, 8
Tonawanda, NY
Charity: The Cheyenne Project
Money raised: $200

“I have a project that I started all by myself, my mom helped and so did my gramma. My project is to make blankets for homeless kids. I used my lemonade stand to make money to buy fleece to use to make the blankets. At Christmas I will give them out at the shelter like I did last year, only last year I didn’t have a lemonade stand first. My mom made me a website... My lemonade stand has helped me make over $200 so far. I have my stand on Sunday mornings and in the fall I will make the blankets to give out to the kids. I’m going to keep having my lemonade stand until it is too cold. I want to be able to make 100 blankets this year.”

Noah, 9
Fairfield, CT
Charity: Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
Money Raised: $27.30

“I had one lemonade stand in August and raised $27.30, which I am donating to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, Westport, CT. This is a 5-mile walk I will be doing with my mom on October 15, 2006. I am doing this walk to support my mom, who is a breast cancer survivor. I had a lot of fun doing the lemonade stand, and I hope to have another one before our walk in October. Thanks, Sunkist, for providing the great stand! I had a lot of fun with my friends running this stand for a few hours on a warm August afternoon.”

Gabrielle, Claire, Ashleigh & Gianna, 7
San Mateo, CA
Charity: Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Association
Money raised: $346.28

“In 3 hours the Daisy Girl Scouts of San Mateo raised $346.28. The girls explained their mission to raise money for Jacob's Heart Children's Cancer Association, based in Santa Cruz, CA. The girls realized that they would not get much by charging 50 cents per drink. Instead, they told residents that it was an open donation and that any help would be appreciated. Many of the residents were pleased to see the girls raise money and awareness for childhood Cancer.”

Jeremy, 11
Cincinnati, OH
Charity: Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN)
Money Raised: $40

“My whole family was blown away when the Sunkist stand came. My dad and my little brother Zach and I put it together. Then my brother Zach and my mom got tons of Sunkist lemons and mixed them with sugar and water today. It was the best lemonade ever because we never had real lemonade. We put the stand on the grassy island in our neighborhood and raised money for PanCan to stop pancreatic cancer. Everybody came! Even a fire truck came with four firemen and they had the lights flashing! And everybody was shocked that Sunkist gave us the stand and everybody said they want to buy stuff from Sunkist now.”

Jordan, 8
Calgary, Canada
Charity: Calgary Zoological Society
Money Raised: $25

“My friend George and I have set up our stand twice now on really hot days. We are raising funds for the Calgary Zoo and the new home for the Asian elephants that they are building. We plan to have the stand out a few more times and raise some more money for the elephant family. We had teenagers and families buying from us and we decorated our stand with animals. People would stop on the street seeing the large Sunkist banner. Thank you for all of the materials to make it easy for us.”

Noah, 8
Barrington, NH
Charity: SPCA
Money Raised: $50

“We received our stand, and set it up over Labor Day weekend, at the end of our driveway. We made signs and were very patient. We held up our signs and yelled "Lemonade"! when cars rode by. Some people stopped, some people couldn’t. Sometimes the wind was too strong and our stand blew over. The UPS guy bought some, and the mail delivery lady even gave us an I.O.U! We used the juicer and people loved the lemonade when we squeezed in fresh lime and orange juice. Towards the end it got slow, but it was really fun! We are delivering our money tomorrow.”

Sydney, 7
Chatham, IL

Charity: American Red Cross
Money Raised: $80

“My lemonade stand was on Saturday, July 8th. I squeezed a lot of lemons with my mom. We sold lemonade, cookies, brownies, and other baked goods. Lots of my friends came and helped out and we set out water things to play with when we got hot. Local businesses (Harmon’s, Meijers, Apple Barn, and Bank of Springfield) donated lemons, ice, and cookies, for us to sell and key chains to give away. I even did drive-thru service to a police officer. It was the best lemonade stand of my life.”

Kennedy, 9
Lancaster, PA
Charity: Children’s Miracle Network
Money raised: $1,200

Nine-year-old Kennedy hosted her third annual “Kisses for Kaeden” and raised $1,200 for Children’s Miracle Network by selling lemonade, hot dogs, hamburgers and by holding an auction. Her success story was featured in the Lancaster New Era newspaper.

Sean, 7
Norwell, MA
Charity: National Alliance for Autism Research

Sean worked with his cousins for the lemonade sale. His family matched the donation and it was made in his cousin's name and in memory of his grandfather.

Austin, 9
Findlay, OH
Charity: Hancock County Humane Society
Contributions raised: $25.51

“I saved up all of my allowance money so that I could buy stuff for my lemonade stand. I bought fresh lemons and cookies. I made good lemonade and raised $25.51 to give to the Hancock County Humane Society so that they could take care of all of the animals. Our newspaper even came out and took a picture of me to put in the paper! I would like to have another lemonade stand to raise even more money for them, but need to save some more allowance. Thank you for getting me started by sending the neat stand to sell at…”

Madison, 7
Livonia, MI
Charity: American Heart Association
Money Raised: $55

Madison wanted to raise money for the American Heart Association, a charity that’s very close to her heart. She had open-heart surgery when she was 18-months old and today suffers from pulmonary insufficiency, which unfortunately may require another surgery in the future. She sees all the good work that the AHA does and wanted to help contribute to it.
