There is an easy way to get juice out of a lemon.

Do you know the answer to this question? Come up with your hypothesis and write it in your notebook. Perform the experiment below to see if your hypothesis is true.

  • Two Sunkist lemons

  1. Cut the first lemon in half and squeeze as much of the juice as you can into a container.
(Don't use a sharp knife without an adult's help!)
  2. Take the second lemon and roll it around on the counter top to soften the lemon.
  3. Squeeze out the juice from the second lemon into its own container.
  4. Now compare.

What did you notice from squeezing both lemons? Record your observations in your notebook. Click here to compare your findings with those of other scientists. Is the hypothesis you wrote in your notebook before you started the experiment true?

Now use the juice you've squeezed in another experiment!
