Sunkist Business & Marketing Tips for Young Entrepreneurs

Check out these hints and tips to help make your lemonade stand a big success.

  • Be sure you have your parent's or legal guardian's permission.
  • Set up your stand following the printed directions and put it where people can read "Fresh Lemonade" on your stand.
  • Pick a good, safe location. If your house isn't on a street with lots of foot traffic, try one of these ideas: church or temple parking lots after worship services; a Little League Baseball® or Youth Soccer game; the local supermarket; outside your community swimming pool or recreation center. Ask your parent(s) to help you get permission.
  • Select a great recipe here! You'll find several fresh, delicious ideas.
  • Price it right. Have a parent help you figure out the cost per pour. Use the formula on our downloadable Price Your Product worksheet here.
  • Offer other products such as homemade cookies and price them using the same formula.
  • Have plenty of ice on hand in an insulated cooler.
  • Watch the weather report. Will your sale days be sunny or is rain forecast?
  • Advertise. Download the printable signs on this Web site or create your own flyers. Post them around the neighborhood or sales area and on community and grocery store bulletin boards. Be sure to include the date, time and location. You might also want to mention the charity you're raising funds for and be sure to use the word FRESH-SQUEEZED.
  • Get attention! Decorate your stand with brightly colored balloons, streamers and pinwheels.
  • Have a sturdy box with a lid to hold your money. You'll need a small bank to start so that you can make change. Don't forget to deduct that amount at the end of the day when figuring your profits.
  • Be polite and cheerful. Smile at your customers and thank them for stopping by, even if they don't buy anything.
  • Clean up your area at the end of the day.
  • Stuff you'll need to get started:

    • Paper or plastic cups
    • Lots of Sunkist lemons
    • A plastic pitcher
    • Fresh water
    • Ice
    • Sugar
    • Fresh lemonade signs
    • A BIG SMILE
