More Information

This Citrus Ice Bowl proves that creative entertaining needn't be expensive. It's not only a serving bowl for any chilled appetizer, even if it's as simple as assorted raw vegetables, but a conversation piece as well.

  • 3 quarts metal bowl
  • 1 1/2 quarts metal bowl
  • 2 (10 oz. each) packages frozen vegetables to use as weights
  • 1 Sunkist® lemon, unpeeled and cut into thin cartwheel slices
  • 1 Sunkist® orange, unpeeled and cut into thin cartwheel slices
  • green leaves (mint, celery, dill, etc.)

Instructions: (Makes 1 serving)

  • Line the bottom of the 3-quart bowl with ice cubes. Place the 1-1/2-quart bowl on the ice cubes in the center of the larger bowl.
  • Holding the smaller bowl in place, fill the space between the bowls one third of the way up with ice cubes.
  • To prevent smaller bowl from sliding, weight it with 2 packages of frozen vegetables.
  • Pour 1 cup of cold water over ice cubes. Freeze until firm.
  • Arrange citrus slices against the sides of the outer bowl, holding them in place with additional ice cubes. Keep the citrus slices below the rim of the outer bowl. Arrange green leaves among the citrus slices.
  • Add water to fill one-third full; freeze until firm. Repeat twice. (The water should only come to within 1/4 inch of rim of larger bowl to allow for expansion during freezing.) Freeze until needed.
  • Remove weights from small bowl; fill with warm water. Small bowl will lift out in about 1 minute.
  • Place larger bowl in warm water; remove Citrus Ice Bowl in about 1 minute.
  • Citrus Ice Bowl can be returned to freezer until ready to use.
  • Place Citrus Ice Bowl on chilled serving dish with sloping sides to catch water as bowl melts.
