This is a very easy homemade red sauce. Orange Fennel Maranara Sauce is quick, simple and very delicious! Great over pasta served with warm garlic bread.


  • 1 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 Sunkist® orange, zested
  • 1/8 tsp. fennel seeds
  • 1 clove garlic, finely minced
  • 1/2 Sunkist® orange, juiced
  • 1 can (35 oz.) imported plum tomatoes, coarsely chopped
  • Cooked pasta

Instructions: (Makes 4 servings)

  • Heat oil in medium saucepan until fragrant. Add onion, orange zest, fennel seeds and garlic. Sauté stirring frequently. When onion is softened add orange juice and simmer until reduced by half. Stir in tomatoes and their juice, heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer sauce for 20 minutes, uncovered. Serve over cooked pasta garnished with half cartwheel orange slices, if desired.
